A Quarter-Million Reads!

Today is a bit of a landmark for me. At this point I have 15 solo-read audiobooks available in the LibriVox catalog (http://librivox.org/newcatalog/people_public.php?peopleid=204).

Downloads are managed by Archive.com, which has been experiencing difficulties for several months. Their download counters stopped working sometime in November and resumed around the beginning of January, so perhaps 6 weeks of history may be missing... but, today the cumulative count for my fifteen books passed 250,000!

Book #16 (The Master of the World by Jules Verne) is finished and in validation at this moment. For more, see Mark's LibriVox Activity (link at right).

  1. Dear Mr. Smith,

Thank you very much for your reading of Huckleberry Finn. I am a Dutch reader and really enjoy the way you read the book. Of course it's a fantastic novel, but the way you read it, makes it all the more worthwile. I keep laughing out loud, so funny convincing your 'voices' are.
I am going to recommend this book to my English reading group and suggest we read and listen both, as I did.
    Thank you again.

  2. Dear Smith,

Thank you very much for your effort in Librivox. I am a Chinese reader. I listened the book "mysterious island" read by you several times. I like your reading style. Now I am starting to listen the book "How to Live on Twenty-Four Hours a Day", which is also read by you.

    Thank you again.

  3. I just wanted to stop by and tell you how much I enjoyed your reading of Huckleberry Finn.

It has kept me entertained, laughing out loud and generally grinning from ear to ear during my daily commute to university in Limoges, France, and whilst fishing by the side of a lake in deepest winter!

    Thank you

  4. Hi Mark,

I just finished Huck Finn and have
to say thanks for the great job you did on this book.
I look forward to listening to some
    of your other many contributions.

Folks like you have made it a joy to 'read' all the classic literature that I found tedious and boring when I was younger and distracted.

    Muchas Gracias !!

  5. I wanted to let you know I've reviewed your recording of "The Lone Star Ranger" at my blog Free Listens. The 6/10 rating is for the book which I thought was fun and entertaining, but not a Great Book.I thought your reading was excellent!

  6. Dear Smith,

I thoroughly enjoyed your readings and I deeply appreciate and thank you for the sincere effort.

Your reading captivated my imagination and I admired the writers talent so much.

Especially your ability to change voice depending upon the character was excellent.

Thanks a lot for your time and service.

    Regards and love,
    Jay

  7. Dear Mark
Really enjoyed your reading of Huck Finn - it was exactly how I imagined it ought to be and I was really sad when I got to the end. As a teacher of English in England I've been lucky enough to have taught the book a couple of times to appreciative students. I wish your recording had been available then. Any chance of Tom Sawyer in the near future? Many thanks!

  8. Mark, I loved your Librivox contributions to the Three Musketeers. I just discovered your re-reading of Around the World in 80 Days (the other reader's version was literally unlistenable). I will be sure to seek out your other books on Librivox. Thanks for you efforts.

  9. Hi Mr. Smith,

Thanks so much for your reading of Captains Courageous. Your steady tone and well-crafted voices made it a delight to listen to.

I found myself literally open-mouthed with my heart pounding during the brief moment when we waited to hear whether the wrecked fisherman's son had survived or not. The pause you include there is brilliant.

I've mentioned your book on my blog, if you're interested.

    Thanks again!
    Brendan

  11. Thank you so much for your excellent reading of *Huckleberry Finn*! I played many portions of it to my 10th grade English classes, and they responded so well to your voice and talent with dialect.

  12. ear Mr Smith
Thank you so much for your wonderful Librovox readings. I started with Mysterious Island. When the story ended I realised I had become addicted to your reading. I have since listened to How to Live on 24 Hours, and Huck Finn. Huck Finn I enjoyed especially. I love the steady pace of your reading, and the different voices you give to the characters. Please don't stop recording! Your readings have become an essential part of my day. Have you thought of reading any Henry James?
